André Monet has more than 20 years of work experience as an Art director, illustrator, graphic designer for marketing agencies and fashion agencies. This comes through in his art and the portraits he creates.
Monet creates photorealistic portraits on a base collage of old newspapers and books, painting and varnish. The choice of text beneath the portrait adds to the story in the images, often the artist picks images and words which relate to the character/ subject e.g. the image from taxi driver above includes a number of guns amongst the pieces in the collage relating back to the film the still is based on.
In 2014, André Monet was chosen to create a portrait of William and Kate. Monet has also produced several images of other royals including Princess Grace of Monaco. His Seduction series allows him to capture the sensual and sexy nature of women.
Monet believes that every face tells a story. Similarly, you can see the inspiration he takes from books, specifically memoirs, as they tell life stories. As in visual art, the stories that a person chooses to put to paper are immortalised.
