Bryan Valenzuela is a street artist with a unique style, like Monet his works appear finished from afar but get closer and another layer is revealed. Valenzuela's works contain lines of handwritten text.
Infatuated by the power and necessity of language, Valenzuela has been toying around with letters and words using a unique drawing technique for over a decade. Unnoticeable from a distance, upon close inspection, observers can discern a barrage of handwritten text intermingled with mixed media elements – thread or paint.
I have been trying to feature artists this week (post record store day UK) who also have a link to music. Valenzuela alongside his art career also plays in a US psych-art band Exquisite Corps (Sadly i'm not reviewing for the music section...).
When street art is done well it is striking. I like the fact that their is more within the images than just what is seen on first glance, the use of text, stories, poetry and phrases adds layers and levels to the images. The images are not direct, they invite interpretation.
