Davy and Kristin McGuire are a multidisciplinary artist duo who blend animation, projection mapping, theatre, film, dance and papercraft. Davy and Kristin‘s hybrid art works are delicate, filigree fantasies built with fragile materials that are momentarily brought to life through digital projections and silent storytelling.
The McGuire's create incredible deft and fragile worlds from paper then bring them to life by projecting video through the landscapes as silhouettes or on screens to tell a story. The use of light and shadow give these creations so much depth and character.
The McGuire's use there paper engineering to create perfect vignettes to tell stories, whether recreating famous movie scenes or bringing to life what happens behind the scenes of a house of ill repute. They truly direct the viewer, adding a gust of wind to move trees or plume of smoke to redact the eyes. There is a real feeling of noir, lots of muted colours and backdrops, these creations are lush, moody and beautiful.
These works are some of the best I have seen that combine AV footage with sculpture, neither element feels artificial, it is as though the mediums were built to go together and nobody else has realised this yet.
