Dominic Bradnum is a visual and audio artist. His distinctive property is the inclusion of the flickering, incandescent qualities of neon lights.
The subject matter of his neon paintings often takes a textual form – poetic statements and enigmatic declarations, translated through a contemporary neon voice, are set within brooding expressionist sea-scapes and post-industrial landscapes.
Bradnum works in a number of media as a Dj and toy maker as well as an artist. I have chosen to focus on his neon paintings. The use of pop art style phrases and neon is reminiscent of art from the 80's but there is a darker undertone which makes his work unique.
The simple phrases juxtapose with the bleak landscapes and the use of layers oil paint somehow make the lights feel a bit dirty, closer to red light district neon signs and bar signs which have a grimy undertone.
