Jongrak Jayawan is an illustrator, based in Pai, Thailand. He trained at the college of Fine Art in Bangkok.
Jayawan's work focuses on the links between nature and balance. Many of his images juxtapose the chaos of the urban space and the affect on mental health, the lack of interaction, stress, congestion, hopelessness caused by living in a city with the more sedate and balanced life in the countryside amongst nature.
Jayawan was born in Bangkok but is now based in Pai, a smaller much slower town in Northern Thailand, his work really shows his thoughts about the effect city living has on people. Many of his works feature people overlapping on top of each other but not mixing, they also show a disconnect between their lives and nature, creating elements on boxes.
Jayawan is interested in work-life balance and the effect of modern living on mental health. He also focuses on the way that people interact with nature and the spiritual realm. Chatting with him I was taken aback by the choices he had made in his life and art to focus on these issues.
