Having been trained as an editorial illustrator Laura now combines her editorial abilities with her fine art skills to create beautiful cityscapes with underlying commentary about society people and culture.
Drawing in small sections Laura Jordan creates small scenes of various aspects that make up a part of the city. These many scenes are then knitted together and encouraged to cross paths and create a larger city scene which then allows the viewer to appreciate all the belongings of a city at once with its many connections and juxtapositions.
I have focused on Jordan's London series in this post, as it is the city I live in and most recognise. Laura Jordan captures the vibrancy of the city, there is a familiarity and a love for the places, like a special little bar that only you know, and take friends. Jordan shares something very personal and special in her neighbourhoods.
Each piece Laura’s work features thought provoking social commentary in the form of stories; usually of events and policies within the city she is depicting.
