Van Ray is a German street / urban artist, his art, he makes use of various stencil techniques on vintage materials.
Van Ray grew up under the influence of the Parisian “Pochoir Movement” during the Eighties.
As a result of this early force of this kind of art, which prevalent implicates art as an expression of social criticism in public. His recent work makes use of various techniques (aerosol paint, acrylic paint, collage and décollage) on iron sheets, wooden slats or retro vending machines.
Van Ray uses art to hold a mirror to society and ask questions, lots of street art is based around questioning societal norms.
Much of his work looks at consumerism and modern culture. The use of rusted metals designed to look like the printing plates of American dollars says so much about the current state of world politics.
