New Energy could be seen as a bit of a joke title as this album feels closer to his older material. New Energy is Four Tet's ninth album and what is notable with previous albums is they all explored new sounds and ideas. New Energy revisits elements from previous works the low key gentle refrains from Rounds, the jazzy explorations of Everything Ecstatic and the more dance focussed recent albums.
Four Tet has produced a much more balanced, sentimental and reserved album. It feels very much like an end of night album, the type you put on when back from a night out.
